How much of the work day are you actually doing something productive?
I work as a administrative support person and have lots of time on my hands. They give me lots of credit for getting so much work done but in reality I just am so fast in what I do that I have 4 hours in a work day that I have nothing to do. Is this common in administrative support work? What do you do other than cruise the Internet to look really busy?

- about half (which, I think, is pretty good)
- Your obviously over qualified for the job your doing. Start looking for something new that will challenge you. You'll obviously get good references. or maybe it's time to ask your current employer for a promotion or more responsibility.
- I have the same issues. There are days that I have so much to do I can not even take lunch and there are others where all I do is surf. I have asked for more work but there is nothing else for me to do. So I do cruise the net alot, like now.
- That's how it was for me when I was an Administrative Assistant. I found that I got very bored. Everyone was so impressed by how fast I got everything done but I think it was just because I knew how to use Microsoft Office.
- I am busy all day long 99.9% of the time. However, I am not as busy as usual right now because it is a slow time in the industry I work in. I am quick at getting my work done too - I like to call it efficient! I prefer to be busy because it makes the time go so much faster. Is there any filing, copying, organizing you could be doing? Can you offer assistance to a co-worker? Just trying to make suggestions.
