How does the government incentive work for your clunker?

I have a 92 Pontiac Boneville. I need a new car. How exactly does this government incentive work? Please explain how I should do it, step by step. - I have bad credit. - I would like to have a newer used car like a Honda or Toyota. But if there is something more reliable, please let me know. - I want to go to a used car dealership this weekend.

1. www.cars.gov has all the details. The plan only works for new car purchases, not used cars.
2. The program ends today http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090731/ap_on_go_co/us_cash_for_clunkers You have to buy a NEW car. If your credit score is under 600 you probably won't get financed. Only way to find out is to go to a dealership & show what you have to offer.
3. The cash for clunkers ended last night according to our GM rep because the billion dollars is already gone. It was only on the purchase of a new car, and you still had to have good enough credit to be able to finance it, or pay cash for it.
